چکیده

Over the recent years, a great deal of effort has been devoted towards the development of analytical models for wormhole-routed networks. However, most of these models employ routers with negligible flit buffers. As a consequence, they do not adequately capture the performance behaviour of actual routers, which are often equipped with extended buffers which can hold more than one message flit. In this paper, an open queueing network model (QNM) is proposed for a wormhole-routed torus with finite buffers subject to a compound Poisson process (CPP) with geometrically distributed batches. The GE/G/1/K queue and appropriate GE-type flow formulae are adopted, as cost-effective building blocks, in the solution process of the entire network. The validity of the model is demonstrated by comparing analytical GE-type results with those obtained through simulation experiments. It is also shown that the wormhole routing based torus network suffer progressively performance degradation with increasing traffic variability.

Performance analysis of adaptive wormhole routing in a two-dimensional torus

This paper presents an analytical evaluation of the performance of adaptive wormhole routing in a two-dimensional torus. Our analysis focuses on minimal and fully adaptive wormhole routing that allows a message to use any shortest path between source and destination. A validation of the analysis through simulation is presented to demonstrate the accuracy of the obtained results. Finally, we rem...

A Broadcast Algorithm for All-Port Wormhole-Routed Torus Networks

A new approach to broadcast in wormhole-routed two-and three-dimensional torus networks is proposed. The approach extends the concept of dominating sets from graph theory by accounting for the relative distance-insensitivity of the wormhole routing switching strategy and by taking advantage of an all-port communication architecture. The resulting broadcast operation is based on a tree structure...

An Accurate Model for the Performance Analysis of Deterministic Wormhole Routing

We present a new analytical approach for the performance evaluation of asynchronous wormhole routing in k-ary n-cubes. Through the analysis of network flows, our methodology furnishes a closed formula for the average message delay in wormhole deterministic routing. In this paper, the focus is on 30 asymmetric torus networks with uni-directional or bi-directional links. However, the model can be...
